Cornwall
2006
Now in its seventh year, the annual outing to Cornwall set
off again from Skaterham to Cornwall on Sunday 20th August
2006. The
fifteen places had sold out months earlier and the children,
aged 9-19 were excited by the week ahead.
This was the first long
journey for the Skaterham mini-bus and the miles sailed past
thanks to the on-board DVD system. Arriving at 7pm, we set up camp
and all sat down to an evening meal followed by some late night
card games.
Day one saw two activities, swimming and a trip to the
first of five different skate parks.
Other activities throughout the week included body boarding,
surfing, fire sticks, a trip to a theme park, Newquay town
visits and beach
outings in addition to the massive amount of skating and
riding at all the major parks in Cornwall.
A new activity for
this year was an on-site talent show and acts included guess
the theme tune, staring competition,
a disgusting
food show and the plastic cup pyramid. The evening was
rounded off with the staff’s act of “Worlds Strongest
Kid” which
saw all the children compete in feats of strength to win
the massive cash prize of £5!
Despite some early rain,
the whole week went very smoothly thanks to some investment
in new tents, seating, a trailer,
cooking equipment and our new mini-bus.
“ The children who attended got on really well with each other” said
a CR3 spokes-person. “Every person who attended has already expressed an
interest in signing up for next year. They all got on really well with each
other and
this single weeks holiday has given all of the attendee’s new
skills.”
Due to the constant success of this holiday, Skaterham
is already planning for next years event which will feature new activities
and the holiday
will be extended
by three days making a new 10 day excursion.
